OUR MISSION STATEMENT

The mission of Appalachia Reach Out is to lead the lost to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ, by showing Christ's love through assisting people with spiritual, physical and economical needs, so they may become disciples of Jesus who make disciples, in partnership with the local churches to carry out the Great Commission in their community.

"Therefore go and make disciples of all nations..."  Matthew 28:19a

"A new command I give you; Love one another.  As I have loved you, so you must love one another.  By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another."     John 13: 34-35

OUR HISTORY

ARO began its ministry in 1972.  At that time, Martin County was one of the poorest counties in America.  Although the coal industry has brought significant improvements and progress to the area, many have not benefited from the boom.  Those families that continue to live below the poverty level are the focus of our ministry.

OUR CAMPUS

ARO carries on its ministry on a site located near the town of Inez, in Eastern Kentucky.  Its facilities include a multi-purpose building, a thrift store, a food pantry, a teen center, housing for staff and a bunkhouse for visitors and volunteer workers.

OUR FOCUS

Showing "Christ's Love in Action" to the people of Martin County.  This is done in a variety of ways.  There are Bible studies with small groups, after school clubs for children, High School Happenings, Vacation Bible School, a thrift store and a food pantry.

Community assistance in the form of home improvements, maintenance and repairs is offered to needy families by ARO through hosting volunteer work groups which take on these projects.  The groups include church youth groups, adult groups, families and retired volunteers.  This volunteer effort provides a valuable service to ARO and the needy families it works with, as well as an unforgettable experience in Christian love for the volunteers themselves.
