Allan and Deb worked with an American/Chinese school (New Day Learning Center) and Chinese schools (North China Aerospace Engineering Institute - NCAEI) teaching ESL (English as a Second Language) to Chinese students, from 2005-2013. We had students from all walks of life and their ages ranged from 16-68 years old, with the majority between 19 and 25, many lives were touched and changed.
The Pearl Project. This project reaches out to the disadvantaged in the local community around the school by providing food, clothing and some home repairs. The goal was spending time with people building relationships, influencing lives and bringing hope. We will continue to support and help develop this project. The project gives students the opportunity to work alongside English speaking people to help the needy in their country; exposing them to this work helps develop their oral English and personal character.
Students also were able to help with the foster children as part of their oral English learning. A class was taught on social involvement. Students got to practice their oral English in a practical way by working alongside Chinese and Americans modeling team work principles. It was another way to build relationships and personal character.
